Khalifa Ababacar Sall, 58, was elected mayor of Dakar for the first time in 2009, replacing former Senate Speaker PapeDiop, a party activist at the time.
He had been elected thanks to the support of several opposition parties.
During his first term, Mr. Sall modernized part of the road infrastructure and improved the living environment of the capital.
Under his leadership, the town hall also improved the quality of equipment in schools and health facilities. He is a member of the political bureau of the PS, which is a member of the presidential majority.
Khalifa Ababacar Sall held ministerial positions from the mid-1990s to 2000. He was a member of the 2001-2007 legislature of the National Assembly.
