Tripoli is the capital and largest city of Libya, with a population of 1.1 million as of 2015. It includes the port of Tripoli and houses the country’s largest commercial and industrial centres. It also hosts the University of Tripoli.
The city has a long, ancient history, being founded by the Phoenicians in the 7th century BC.
The Civil War has provided many challenges for sustainability in the city and initiatives are mostly aimed at restoring order and peace so that development can return to pre-civil war standards.
